The Estate

Reached by a country lane which winds down approx. 2km from the charming little village of Sassofortino (where you'll find a good infrastructure such as post office and cash dispense, a little supermarket, a couple of pizzerias and trattorias and the rest of typical local Tuscan grocery stores), the Tenuta Aia Vecchia enjoys a position which is blissful both for its beauty, peace and its superb and open views. The setting of the property is idyllic, embedded in its own olive-groves, cork-oaks, centuries old chestnut trees and plenty of evergreen forests: the typical "macchia mediterranea".

Sassofortino, a friendly village reminding you of a Fellini film, where no one ever seems to be in a hurry, lies in the Southern part of Tuscany, Province of Grosseto, more precisely in the heart of Maremma - an area with a special magic all of its own. The estate covers approx. 50 hectars (160 acres) - half of it are olive-groves, the other half woods and horse pasture ground - and the land is lovingly tended and organically farmed. From the handsome antique stone farmhouse one can enjoy, thanks to a gently sloping position at 350m above sea level, a breathtaking panoramic view into and over the rolling Tuscan hills right up to the Monte Amiata. And from some spots on the property one can even see, provided the days are clear, the Thyrrenian Sea and the island of Giglio on the horizon. From Tenuta Aia Vecchia all important Tuscan cultural and artistic sites as well as the sea are easy to reach.
